One Cool Caddy: 1947 Series 62 Convertible

The 1947 Cadillac Series 62 was the last of the second-generation passenger cars that brought us two new models: the Coupe Deville and the Eldorado. It was a complementary series to the entry-level 61 Series and became larger and more stylish as the series progressed. By 1947, the cars were available in a 2-door coupe, a 4-door sedan, and a 2-door convertible.

It was the 2-door convertible that Steve Venegas of Des Moines, Iowa was showcasing at the Sounds of Summer Nights car show in Iowa when we ran into him.

Restoring the 1947 Cadillac Series 62

Steve’s 1947 was one of only 6,755 cars produced that year, and he spent three years getting it customized and ready to show. All of the finishes are original to the factory.

“I wanted the car to maintain its original factory look with modern upgrades.”

– Steve Venegas

Some of the modern upgrades included in this build are:

  • LS3 Crate Engine
  • 9-inch Rear End
  • Holley Transmission
  • Air Ride lift System
  • Vintage Heating and AC System
  • Bluetooth Radio Upgrade

He kept the original steering wheel and skirts.

“You gotta have the skirts because when you slam this thing down, you want it to look like it’s floating on the concrete.”

– Steve Venegas
