Customer Story: 1953 Ford F-100
The F-100 has long been an important fixture of traditional Americana and a symbol of the well-built, stylish, and unique past.
The F-100 is one of the most iconic trucks ever produced. And long after their final production run, they have carried on as a collector favorite. That’s why we want to tell you about Dennis Fink’s F-100, which we briefly mentioned in our August roundup. Below you’ll get even more of the story.
Hot Start
“The original story on this truck, where it came from, was Wyoming. And the truck was purchased by a fire department,” shares Dennis Fink, owner of a 1953 Ford F-100 “It had stayed out there most of its life and then came out to Iowa probably 20-something years ago.”
Fink has made several notable upgrades to the truck since acquiring the F-100 including disc brakes, a C4 automatic transmission, power steering, a kick-down cable for the trans, and seatbelts.
Vintage Americana
Fink also reminisces about the old DX station that used to reside in his town. It was an old-school full-service station that really stuck out as a cool piece of history he remembers fondly.
Once fink purchased his first antique gas pump, he was locked in and an obsession was born. He began searching near and far for antique automotive memorabilia, particularly for items that reminded him of his past.
But the F-100 is the cherry on the top of the memorabilia cake.
“The coolest part… it’s unique,” exclaims Fink “They had a really unique design back then, and everything was so well built. The metal was just so much thicker and heavier. It’s easier to work on.”
Future Of The F-100
In the future, Fink hopes to have the Karl Kustoms crew do further revival work like adding vintage air to the F-100 for additional comfort.
But that’s not all that Fink has planned for the truck.
“I want to put some Texaco decaling on it to make it look like a Texaco service truck,” says Fink “I’ve always been fascinated with the old gas station signs and pumps. This truck was bought to fit the theme of my garage.”
