A Look Inside the Blueprint Engines Builder Series at Karl Kustoms
If you’ve ever built a restomod or a hot rod, you know that one of the biggest headaches can be the matchmaking process. Finding the right engine is one thing, but finding the right transmission to mate to it – and then gathering all the miscellaneous sensors, starters, and ECUs to make them talk to each other – is a whole different challenge.

What Is The Blueprint Engines Builder Series?
As Adam explains in the video, the Builder Series is designed to be a true, drop-in solution. Rather than buying a crate engine and then hunting for a transmission, the Blueprint Engine Builder Series provides the engine and transmission already mated together.
It comes as a complete kit, exactly as you see it in the shop. While we are looking at an LS series in the video, Karl Kustoms offers these packages in various combinations, including Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge configurations.
The Powerplant: 427 LS Small Block
The specific unit Adam is showcasing is a 427 LS Small Block, and to say “this thing will get after it” is an understatement! Here are the numbers that matter:
- Horsepower: 605 HP
- Torque: 565 ft-lbs
This engine is built for durability and serious performance. It starts with a cast-iron block packed with forged internals – including forged pistons and a forged crank. Up top, it features LS3 cylinder heads and an LS3 intake manifold.
Designed For Easy Installation
What sets this package apart isn’t just the horsepower; it’s the thought put into the installation process.
- Drive-By-Wire: The setup uses a drive-by-wire throttle body. This allows you to mount your gas pedal anywhere and run a sensor wire rather than routing a bulky cable through the firewall. It keeps your engine bay looking clean and modern.
- Universal Fitment: It comes with an oil pan designed to fit most applications from 1955 to 1995, making it perfect for the majority of hot rod builds.
- The Essentials Included: This crate engine includes the starter and the transmission dipstick tube right out of the box.
The Transmission: Gearstar 4L70 Series
Blueprint has partnered with Gearstar to complete this package with a 4L70 Series transmission. It’s a match made in horsepower heaven.
One detail Adam points out is the inclusion of the AN adapter fittings on the transmission case. Most transmissions don’t come with these, forcing you to hunt for parts just to run your cooling lines to the radiator. With the Builder Series, they are pre-installed and ready to go.
The Brains Of The Operation
Tying it all together is the Holley Terminator X-Max. This controller handles everything. It functions as the brain for both the engine and the transmission, ensuring they communicate perfectly. It comes plugged in and ready to run, offering a true plug-and-play experience for your build.
