Quick Look At A Chevy Confederate Restoration

Despite Depression-era production, the Chevy Confederate helped Chevrolet stay ahead of cross-town rival Ford and remain #1.

The Chevy Confederate is one of the sleekest and classiest sedans to ever roll out of Detroit as you can see in the video above. Produced as somewhat of a bargain Cadillac, the Chevy Confederate with its inline-six engine was the (probably) the perfect bootlegger.

Here at Karl Kustoms, we love bringing dead machines back to life and this Chevy Confederate project is one of the best restorations we’ve seen.

A Classic 1932 Ride

The body lines on the Chevy Confederate do the Chevy name justice. The design of the vehicle struck a perfect balance between cutting edge and timeless design.

While production numbers came to approximately 313,395 total units, the Chevy Confederate is quite the rarity today. Not many can be seen roaming the streets, but that makes them all the more special.

King Of Chrome

The Confederate fought hard against its rival Ford’s new V8s. But what it might have lacked in displacement, the Confederate made up for in style.

Chevy made it a point for the Confederate to be more visually appealing than that of rival automakers. One of the standout features of the Confederate is its use of chrome.

Confederates like this one utilized beautiful chrome-plated bullet-style headlights, chrome-plated hood louvers, and even chrome-plated hood doors on the Deluxe model.

The chrome didn’t stop there. The bumpers, grille housing, and eagle ornament all adorned the chrome aesthetic.

Chevy Confederate Powertrain

The Confederate houses the Chevy “Stovebolt” inline-six engine. The Stovebolt is mounted to a 3-speed synchromesh transmission as well as a downdraft carburetor.

Initially introduced with only 50 hp, the Stovebolt added a balanced crankshaft and upped compression to a ratio of 5.2:1 to increase power to 60 hp.

One Great Looking Vehicle

Despite the low power output compared to today’s vehicles, the Confederate stands out as a beautiful and timeless vehicle. Few of these cars remain and it’s always a pleasure to see one like this restored to its former glory.
