2024 IMCA Super Nationals: Track Talk With Jake McBirnie

Bryan Perry sat down to chat with modified driver Jake McBirnie at the IMCA Super Nationals event held in Boone, Iowa, this past September.
Jake McBirnie: Boone Racing Legend
Jake is a Boone local and has been racing professionally for 10 years. His racing partnership with Karl Kustoms began at this very race last year when he broke a motor at the 2023 Supernationals. With the next race in Marshalltown just a week away, Jake needed his engine fixed within a week.

Ever since then, Jake and his team have been working with Karl Kustoms on the engine package for their Modified race car.
Stellar 2023 Season
The 2023 season for Jake and his team has gone very well so far.
“It’s been a good year. Not a lot of difficulties, a lot of fun.”

They have won 10 races so far, including the points title at Boone. So, what makes Jake the man to beat at Boone?
“I’ve raced here (Boone) my whole life, I’ve been doing it for 10 years and missed 5 or 6 races.”

Clearly, Jake’s dedication and knowledge of the track have played a big part in his success. But he is clearly a skilled racer, and his stellar IMCA record was further enhanced by a trio of wins in various categories throughout the week. He was clearly very serious when he told Bryan that he was there to win.
But it’s not all about the race wins. Jack’s favorite part about IMCA Super Nationals is watching the racing and the camaraderie between events.
