An Interview With Jeffrey Larson

Jeffrey Larson joined us at the Karl Kustoms trailer to talk about the racing season so far, his championship hopes, and how he came to be part of the Karl Kustom’s family. Jeffrey’s brother, Dustin won the 2015 IMCA Stock Car Super Nationals Championships thanks in part to the quality engines and parts supplied by Karl Kustoms:

“Pretty much since then I have run Kelly’s motors in my IMCA Stock Car,”

– Jeffrey Larson

Kelly Tapper, our machine shop manager, has been building Jeffrey’s Open IMCA Stock Car engine ever since. His builds can withstand tough racing conditions and what Jeffrey describes as an ‘Aggressive’ driving style. When asked what the 2024 racing season has been like, Jeffrey had one thing to say:

“A lot of rain. We’ve still had a pretty successful season, just rain cut it pretty short this year.”

– Jeffrey Larson

They completed about half as many races as they would have liked, completing just 22 shows before the IMCA Super Nationals. With a grid full of talented drivers, placing well requires a good measure of luck, and Jeffrey was pragmatic about his chances at taking the title.

“With a grid of over 300 stock cars, a third of these guys could take the title.”

– Jeffrey Larson

One of Jeffrey’s toughest rivals this year has been Kelly Shryrock. His brother and the Murtys have also performed very well. In the end Shryock took overall honors, but Larson will return in 2025 to challenge for the title.
