The Oldsmobile 442 was the perfect response to GM-sibling and rival Pontiac who found success with their GTO LeMans.

We had a blast with this Oldsmobile 442. It’s always nice to work with some good old-fashioned American muscle.

History Of The 1st-Gen 442

The 442 was the result of a good old-fashioned in-house rivalry between GM brands Pontiac and Oldsmobile. Pontiac had just released their GTO package Lemans and it proved to be a major success.

In response, Oldsmobile thought to throw a bit more muscle into its popular Cutlass model. Thus, the 442 was born.

The 442 debuted with a beefy 5.4 L V8 engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. Specs included 310 hp at 5200 rpm and 355 lb⋅ft of torque at 3600 rpm.

In 1967, we saw the final installment of the 1st-gen 442. This model year saw an increase in the size of the intake valves and had lost its multiple carburetors.

But, the ’67 442 still had an impressive 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds and sported a quarter-mile time of 14.1 seconds at 103 mph.

Oldsmobile customers could choose between Strato bucket seats or notchback bench seat. Carpeting, Morocceen vinyl upholstery, wide-oval tires, and a beefier suspension with rear sway bar also came standard.

Lastly, customers could add front disc brakes for $104 and power steering for $94 for the ’67 model year

This particular 1967 Oldsmobile 442 is quite the machine. It comes complete with AC and utilizes a 3-speed automatic transmission.

Painstakingly restored to original condition, it looks just as good as the day it rolled off the lot.

Outside, it wears Saffron paint with a black roof. Inside the vehicle, it bares a sleek all-black interior with chrome accents. It has a truly aggressive look and the idle lopes to match.
